Promoting March 26th Protest

Dear all,

You may or may not have noticed that over the past week there has been a lot of activity in preparation for this Saturday’s Protest, ‘March for the Alternative’, and our newly elected Campaigns Officer has been championing the March. QMSU would like you and your club or society to get involved in any way possible – whether it’s finding out more, promoting to your members and the wider student population, and/or to coming on the March yourself (meet at 9am this Saturday outside the Blomeley Centre). It doesn’t matter if your campus is apolitical. Any involvement you have with this March will not impact the apolitical standing of BLSA. Below is a message from our Campaigns Officer:

We understand there is a lot going on, but we need our clubs and societies to step up and promote this March as well as attend. As you may already know this will be the biggest march since the one against the Iraq war, with predicated attendance of over half a million people. We want Queen Mary students to represent this union and go on this march to help protect our education, our funding and the Union itself.

I can understand that some of you might say you’re too busy, or that you simply don’t care. I would like to remind you of the fact that this Student’s Union exists for you, and every single club and society exists because of this Union. Every Hail Mary, every piece of equipment and every training ground has been organised and funded by the Union for the benefits of students, and now we’re calling on you to help defend ourselves from these cuts so you can still have a club or society to call your own.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you, as if you needed reminding, that some of the awards at colours and honours are assessed based on your contribution to the Union. What little you do over the next week could have a massive impact on the campaign, and on the results at Colours & Honours.

I look forward to hearing from you, and organising a time and event your club and society can be a part of. When you reply to this email, kindly send it to our Campaigns Officer Ozzy Amir, ozzyamirface@gmail.com.
