The following six positions are open for nomination.

1. President:
- preside at all General meetings of the society and at all meetings of the Committee, and shall be responsible for guiding the activities of the club in accordance with its general policy as expressed by the majority of its members.
- ensure that the Society operates in accordance with its Constitution and the Articles of Association, Bye Laws and Policies of QMSU.
- attend QMSU’s training sessions as appropriate
- represent or arrange for the representation of the society at meetings of other organisations.
- ex officio be a member of any other committee of the Society.
- representative of the society in the UKEC’s Supreme Council.
- organise fair and transparent elections for the following year’s committee in accordance with election’s regulations set by QMSU.
- authorise the withdrawal of expenditure from the Societies account.

2. Vice President:
- assume the duties of the President when the latter is unavailable or unfit to discharge his/her duties.
- advise and assist the President in the running of the society.
- representative of the society in the UKEC’s Supreme Council.

3. Secretary:
- prepare the minutes of all meetings and distribute these minutes to the members of the committee.
- keep a record of all activities organised throughout the academic year.
- keep a database of all members of the society and constantly monitor and update it.
- write the necessary documents to individuals or organisations as required by the society.

4. Treasurer:
- responsible for the collection and disbursement of all monies belonging to the society and will keep proper accounting records of all such transactions.
- present to the members at the AGM a balance sheet and income and expenditure account showing the society’s financial position and the results of its transactions for the year.
- present a financial plan for the upcoming year at the first committee meeting detailing the expenditures of the society’s grant allocation and income plan for their subscription account.
- ensure financial transactions made through QMSU are conducted in accordance with guidance provided.
- authorise the withdrawal of expenditure from the Societies account.
- ensure that all relevant financial documents are retrieved from the previous Treasurer and passed on to the next Treasurer.

5. Other Officers (2 positions):
- Their respective duties shall be decided by the elected committee.
- They shall provide the support and assistance necessary in the running of the society and the organisation of events.
- They shall be prepared to take on responsibilities as and when required by the society.

Rules:
- Nominations will be open from now until midnight of 21st March 2012 (Wednesday). Please send in your submission to QMMS by email at qmmsoc@gmail.com
- Each candidate must be nominated by one QMMS member and seconded by another QMMS member.
- The campaigning period shall begin on the 22nd March 2012, after the list candidates have been published. All candidates must not campaign before the aforementioned time or their candidacy will be revoked. CAMPAIGN IS NOT MANDATORY!
- All candidates must end their campaigns 24 hours before the AGM, which is by 7pm, 27th March 2012. Any campaigning after the deadline shall result in one’s candidacy being revoked.
- The Returning Officers of the Elections Committee shall, at their discretion (made in simple majority), decide whether to allow last minute nominations to cater to extraordinary circumstances, such as vacancy of certain positions.
- Nominations should comply with the format given below. Please note that failure to comply with the format will result in your candidacy qualification being revoked.
- A member is only allowed a chance to nominate and a chance to second a candidate. (eg. X can nominate candidate Y, and second candidate Z).

A better year, a better society!

For the very first time, Queen Mary Malaysian Society presents “Uncovering the truth of the Past”, a talk by an important figure in Malaysia, Tun Hanif Omar.

Tun was born on 16th of January 1939. He was the Chief of Police of Malaysia and the longest serving Chief of Police. He served for 20 years during the crucial times of our history. He gave his service to our second Prime Minister, the late Tun Razak. He was also in duty during the most important chapters in our history which are during the state of the emergency due to communists attack and also during the racial riot in May 1969. Currently, Tun Hanif Omar is the Deputy Chairman of Genting Group, one of Asia’s leading and best-managed multinational corporation.

As an experienced and a non-political figure, Tun agreed to share his opinions and thoughts. He will be discussing issues ranging from history, law, democracy, unity and also nationalism.

Tun will be there to answer your doubts on the important events of our history from the day we achieved Independence, Communist attack, May 13, Konfrontasi, MAPHILINDO and all the way to Bersih 2.0.

As future leaders of Malaysia, we strongly encourage you to attend this talk as it will give you a clear understanding of the issues involving our past, present and future.

What do you get when you mix the black tea with the condensed milk and poured the mixture back and forth repeatedly between two vessels from a height? You get Teh Tarik(pulled tea). What do you expect when a Malaysian boy met another Malaysia girl in London and both of them are teh-tarik lovers? You get ‘Cinta Teh Tarik’!

We promise you that ‘Cinta Teh Tarik’ isn’t just like any other ordinary boring love story, however it is in fact something which some of you can relate to. This play is based on friendship, family and life outside home.
